What kinds of items are a good place to find scrap metal, (i.e. copper, brass, aluminum, etc.)?

Seth T asked:

I am cleaning up some property that is full of junk and I need to know what kinds of metals will sell as scrap, where to find them, and how to identify each one. Any other information about recycling would be appreciated. I need to remove a lot of old tires but I don’t know where to take them or what to do with them. If they are usable around an acreage, any tips are encouraged. Thank you.

Here’s a site that has suggestions on scrapping metal. Some is useful, some not so much. It will get you started though.

Copper is reddish in color. Brass is allot like copper but more yellowish in collar. Aluminum is a silver collar and lite weight. Lead is silver collar and heavy a magnet will not stick to those metals then you have steel and a magnet will stick to it. Car batteries at a scrap yard pays i think 5 bucks. You could just load it up and take all in at once but you make allot well a heck of allot more if you take your time and strip it all if you do that make sure you clean all the plastic and any steel off it and keep it all separate

    those tires will sell too.

cable wires are copper covered in rubber coating.

and, your softdrinks/soda/beer cans? they’re worth a lot too…they’re made of platinum you know. junk shops buy them…
